We designed the new brand identity design and editorial design for Four Barrel Coffee and their new cafe launching in Hayes Valley called Loquat. Loquat is a cafe and bakery serving tasty treats inspired by the Mediterranean and the cultural background of the founders.
The design direction was built off the idea of modernizing classical Illuminated manuscripts - thinking about how the ancient coffee houses of Europe and Asia would show up in a modern society, combining gothic elements and ornamentation with modernist simplicity and timeless elegance.
Colors are pulled from the vibrant and natural ingredients used in the baked goods.
